PREP
Before setting up your stock tank pool, one of the most important steps is preparing the ground properly. Start by choosing a flat, well-drained area that gets a good balance of sun and shade. Clear away all grass, rocks, and debris from the spot where your tank will sit—this helps prevent damage to the bottom of the tank and ensures a level surface. Use a shovel or sod cutter to remove the top layer of grass, and then check for any uneven spots using a level. If the ground isn't already flat, you'll need to dig down or fill in low areas with compacted dirt or sand. A level base is crucial—an uneven pool can shift, leak, or even tip over.
Once your area is cleared and leveled, add a layer of compacted gravel or sand to help with drainage and support. Some people also use paver stones or a concrete pad for extra stability, especially if the pool will be used long-term. Lay down landscaping fabric before adding gravel to prevent weeds from growing under your pool. Tamp down the surface well and double-check it’s level from multiple angles. Taking the time to prep your land the right way means fewer headaches down the road and a safer, longer-lasting pool experience.
